Peace Queens!
Ever since I received my Neck Chain from Hey Sistah’s, Shopify has been on my mind.
What is Shopify? That’s what I want to know.
What I do know, I’ve ordered from businesses like FashionNova, Shoe Carnival, Organic India, and most recently Hey Sistah’s and as I was going through the check out process, I was being filtered through Shopify.
Initially, I was intimidated by the idea of Shopify as a solution for my brand. I think I was under the impression that Shopify was for drop- ship type business structures. However, once I received this dope Neck Chain from Hey Sistah’s that reads, “Queendom” ;my beliefs about Shopify were shaken.

The label on the package was handwritten. Which leads me to believe, The Sistah’s behind Hey Sistah’s are processing and packaging their own orders. They are not operating a drop-ship type business structure.
Drop-ship is when your items are manufactured and stored in some place other than your business's commercial space. And when orders are placed on your website, they are fulfilled by people other than the employees of your business. It’s a very hands off business structure that works great for products like accessories and tee shirts. You create the design, find a company to manufacture, then hookup with a drop ship company who stores your products and handles shipping out orders, handling returns and minor customer service tasks.
The quality Shea Butter I make and sell in my Etsy Shop is handmade in small batches. This has always stopped me from pursuing drop ship methods. Yet, I want to find a way to fire myself from making products with my own hands and also I want to fire myself from processing all orders. Even though it is an aspect of my job that is satisfying, it is time consuming and as an entrepreneur I know my talents and time would be more lucrative if spent in other areas of the business. So, at least for now, drop shipping as an option is on my mind as a potential solution.
Shopify, however, is in the forefront of my mind as I think of ways to monetize my websites in a classy way. I want to build a community that provides a safe space for like minded individuals and also earn an income from it. Based on what I’ve learned of Shopify in my brief exploration of their products and services, I think that by integrating their capabilities into my existing websites I will be able to curate the products that line up with my brand and offer them to buyers seamlessly.
I’m excited to learn more about Shopify.
Tell me, does your business idea seem like it could work as a drop ship business? Are you running a dropship company already? What are the pros and cons? I’d love to know. Leave a comment!
Much Love to You,
Queen Sunshine
